THE HISTORY
Narcissy Aviance (he/she/it/work bitch/huh?) has spent nearly thirty-five years on stage, with her first dance performance at age eight. Born in upstate New York, by 10 he was studying musical theater, and through her teens trained in classical ballet and modern dance at the Joffrey School of Ballet, Walnut Hill School of the Arts, the Kennedy Center in DC, and the Alvin Ailey School, graduating high school with a diploma in contemporary dance from North Carolina School of the Arts. He was headed for the expected dance company career until, at 15, she snuck into NYC’s legendary Palladium (with some high-femme trickery at the door) and saw Kevin Aviance perform, a revelation so electric it pulled him, body and soul, into the nightlife arts forever. At 17 he moved to NYC, where Mother Juan Aviance welcomed her into the House.
Through the early 2000s he was a fixture in New York nightlife as a performance artist: resident dancer at the reopened Sound Factory on 46th Street with Jonathan Peters (featured on his S&M Revelation album), touring with Willi Ninja and the House of Ninja, performing at Centro-Fly with Hex Hector, the electro Motherfucker parties at The Roxy, performing on Twilo and Junior Vasquez’s Gay Pride float in 2001, and in Kevin Aviance's extravagantly choreographed production for Victor Calderone's Deep Dark Jungle at Hammerstein Ballroom. At Avalon (formerly Limelight) she ran choreography, costume, and stage direction, culminating in a massive New Year's Eve show with Sasha & Digweed. Behind the scenes, she also spent four years assisting management of the Azure Nightclub Corporation across its venues Spa, Plaid, Exit, and Capitale.
In 2004 he moved to Ibiza and hustled up dancing gigs (pre-iPhone, pre-social media, children!) at Café Del Mar, La Troya Asesina at Amnesia, Space, and Manumission at Privilege, the largest nightclub in the world, alongside Fischerspooner and Grandmaster Flash, then on to Hollywood to perform with the late, Grammy-winning DJ Peter Rauhofer in 2005. At 30, Narcissy hit a career high at Puerto Rico's Mega Electronic Festival in Hiram Bithorn Stadium, starring in an elaborate psychedelic techno-theater piece built around the Cotorra, a parrot spirit: in 2011 alongside Axwell, Benny Benassi, and Sub Focus, and again in 2012 before some twenty thousand people with Tiësto and Above & Beyond.
Today she records house music vocals as Narcissy, a style shaped by years of acting training at San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater. Offstage, he's built parallel lives as a digital designer and art director for brands like Intel, Sephora, and Hilton, holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in New Media and Graphic Design from the Academy of Art University, and a master's degree in psychology. Her debut singles (Psychonaughty, I Don't Care, and The Rounds) are out now on the BE Sounds label, with new projects underway at Aviance Records and a growing list of collaborators.
